NARI-Eritrea Visits ICRISAT, Explores New Collaboration Areas

High-level Visit

A delegation from Eritrea’s National Agricultural Research Institute (NARI), led by Director General Mr Tsegay Berhane, recently visited the ICRISAT office and facilities in Nairobi as part of a fact-finding mission in Kenya.

“We chose ICRISAT as our lead organization for this mission in the country because we have a long and healthy relationship that has resulted in close collaboration over the years. We have worked with the organization before, and as a young nation, we are focusing on building the capacity of our young scientists through South-South cooperation,” said Mr Tsegay.

ICRISAT has been active in Eritrea since 1997, and still collaborates with the Ministry of Agriculture on germplasm supply, contributing to germplasm collection efforts in the country.

Looking ahead, NARI and ICRISAT plan to expand collaboration in areas such as capacity building, gender, nutrition, landscape restoration, and joint project implementation focused on ICRISAT’s mandate crops.
